Abstract

This paper presents an experience of developing an ontology for the domain of climate change. It emphasizes on contextual information support, by considering specific terms and their definitions specifically for the climate change domain. The ontology is developed following a methodology to ensure that the development process follows concrete steps to develop an authentic and comprehensive ontology. During the development process, competency questions have been utilized to ensure that the ontology fully complies to its scope of knowledge. Furthermore, the developed ontology is also evaluated to ensure that the ontology fulfills its development objectives and scope. As an authentic knowledgebase, this developed ontology could be effectively utilized in any semantic application in the future to answer domain specific questions related to the domain of climate change.
